Using Recognition as a Safety Tool

Text Box: Recognition Awareness Incentives are an activity or an exercise that arouses or stimulates action and motivates an effort toward achievement.

One of the most common misconceptions of a safety recognition program is that it is intended to be a stand-alone action that will solve problems all by itself.

A Safety Program is like a pie with many pieces, recognition being one piece, the piece that reinforces all of the others. Remove any piece of the pie and the pie is incomplete.

Awareness is the primary goal of recognition programs. Recognition Awareness Programs highlight the activities and behaviors that will ultimately prevent accidents and injuries. This is why a recognition program should not be independent of the overall safety program, but rather must be integrated into the program as a vital part.

A awareness incentive program should be structured to enhance and reinforce safety training, safety equipment, a safe working environment, as well as your safety policies and procedures. It should raise the level of awareness and participation toward your best practices benchmark. Safety Incentive Programs are an investment that can pays big cost saving dividends to your company's bottom line.
